Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum has called on the federal government to deploy technology in protecting critical national assets.
Governor Zulum made the call during a special townhall meeting to address vandalisation of Power and Telecommunications Infrastructure held in Maiduguri.
Electricity towers along Maiduguri-Damaturu road have been destroyed by the Boko Haram insurgents, subjecting residents into untold hardship, particularly those who depend on electricity for their livelihood as the state has spent about 9 months in darkness, the governor said.
Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Elkanemi and Secretary Borno Elders Forum Dr Bulama Mali Gubio on their part called for stricter penalties by the federal government on vandals destroying Power and Telecommunication installations.
Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai Major General Christopher Musa also confirmed the activities of unpatriotic people sabotaging efforts in restoring power supply to the metropolis and called on traditional and opinion leaders to champion sensitisation campaigns.
