FG sets up c’ttee on recovery of illegal petrol product

An Inter-Ministerial Committee for the purpose of implementing a mechanism for the recovery of illegally refined Petroleum products in Dig-Up pits found around the creeks of the Niger Delta has been approved by the federal government.

Acting Solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Mr Umar Mohammed made this known at the Inauguration Ceremony of the Committee in Abuja.

While inaugurating the 10-Member Committee, Mr. Mohammed explained that their responsibility was to detect, report, assess and ensure transparent disposal of the crude oil with due consideration to the environment.

Members of the committee were drawn from relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies including the Ministry of Environment, Nigerian Army, Navy and National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency.
