The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Plateau State has called on the State Government to suspend the conduct of elections in Jos North and Bassa local government areas of the state till stable peace is achieved.

Addressing Journalists in Jos, Chairman of the youth wing of the association, Markus Kanda-Audu raised concerns about why elections would be conducted when residents had not recovered from the pain and agonies of their losses, with little in place to assure them of their safety.

Flanked by the leadership of the Women wing of CAN Rhoda Jahota and Ethnic Youth Nationalities Northern Zone, Song Muru, Kanda-Audu said the existing curfew in Jos North is an indication that peace is yet to fully return to the local government.

He called on the government to channel the resources for the elections to rehabilitate displaced persons to enable them to return to their homes.
