Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ has called on the Federal Government to provide budgetary allocation for media practitioners in the country to undertake a nationwide assessment of projects executed by the government.
National President of the NUJ, Mr. Chris Isiguzo made the call at the 7th Triennial Delegates Conference of the union in Umuahia, Abia State.
Mr. Chris Isiguzo also appealed to the federal government to support the grant for Media Stabilization Fund to enable journalists to perform their constitutional duties of holding leaders accountable efficiently.
He pointed out that most Journalists in the country carry out their duties under difficult conditions due to inadequate support and welfare calling on Government to take proactive steps towards developing a sustainable better working conditions for media practitioners.
The NUJ President also stressed the need for the federal government to exhibit a high sense of tolerance in dealing with the anger and frustrations of citizens towards the prevailing insecurity in the country.
Mr. Isiguzo called on Nigerians to be united in fighting insurgency and other acts of terrorism.
He also called on the federal government to listen to credible suggestions and concerns by highly placed citizens regardless of their inclinations as part of measures towards finding solutions to security challenges in the country.
The NUJ President however urged journalists to be committed to professionalism and uprightness in their reportage especially security issues in the country to avoid escalation of the situation.
