President Muhammadu Buhari during a meeting with the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Governor Willie Obiano today (Thursday) rushed to the State House to try to dissuade President Muhammadu Buhari from imposing a state-of-emergency in Anambra State ahead of the November 6 governorship election in the state.
Details of the closed-door meeting were not disclosed to newsmen, but it is obvious that the Federal Government’s threat to invoke a state-of-emergency if the state government fails to protect the sanctity of lives and property prompted it.
Our State House correspondents gathered that the Governor made efforts to convince President Buhari that the state government would ensure the smooth conduct of the election.
President Buhari’s response to Governor Obiano’s persuasion would only be understood in the manifestation of the line of action that would prevail in the run-up to the election.
