Privates schools teachers are not better than public- NSSEC Boss

The Executive Secretary of National Senior Secondary School Education Commission (NSSEC), Dr.Benjamin Abakpa has revealed that private schools teachers are not better than public schools teachers, adding that they need monitoring and proper supervision.

Dr Abakpa disclosed this while receiving the Kaduna State commissioner for education, in his office, Abuja.

According to him, the menace of cultism in the higher institution is due to lack of proper check from teachers saying, if students are properly put into class to learn, what we have today should not be.

He, however, noted that the commission has a big task of prescribing minimum standard for senior school education and also the responsibility of intervening in key areas to have all data for record purposes and proper investigation.

“We should have a real database for secondary education in Nigeria whereby if you are called upon anytime, you should be able to give the right population in your school. For example, how many students do you have, how many secondary schools, and how many function science and technical students’’. He said

The Kaduna State Commissioner for education, Shehu Usman Muhammed, urged the commission to have biometric data for all secondary students so that if the student is leaving to another school, he could be properly checked.

He said “In Kaduna State, we have introduced blended learning whereby students can learn from home and school.COVID-19 pandemic showed a lot of things, therefore we need to prepare ourselves ahead time.”
