NCDC records 33 COVID-19 deaths

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC says 33 people have died from COVID-19 complications.

According to the Centre, 125 new cases of the virus were also reported across the country on Sunday.

The new cases were reported from 10 states, the FCT leading the list with 45 new infections.

Other states were Kaduna (34), Rivers (11), Lagos (10), Osun (10), Oyo (9), Jigawa (2), Edo (2), Kano (2), Plateau (1).

Nigeria has so far recorded 209,298 cases of the virus and 2,837 deaths.

However, 197,143 cases have been discharged, according to the NCDC.

The novel coronavirus has killed at least 4,891,684 people since the outbreak emerged in China in December 2019, according to a tally from official sources compiled by AFP on Sunday.

At least 240,314,450 cases of coronavirus have been registered. The vast majority have recovered, though some have continued to experience symptoms weeks or even months later.

The figures are based on daily reports provided by health authorities in each country.
