Youths, security agents storm streets on EndSARS anniversary

Some youths across the country on Wednesday trooped to the streets and major highways to hold processions on the first anniversary of the EndSARS protest.

In Akure, Business and normal official activities in places like Oyemekun road, Oja Oba to Alagbaka area continue undisrupted even as security operatives provided protection for the youths who were marking the first anniversary of the Endsars protest.

The protesters marched from Old Garage in Akure and ended the #EndSARS Remembrance Day at the Ondo State Police Headquarters on Igbatoro road where the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Bolaji Salami addressed them and attributed the delay in the implementation of the panel report on the last year’s protest to paucity of funds on the part of the Ondo state government.

Mr Salami promised to deliver the demands of the Endsars protesters to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

Some residents who spoke on the EndSARS anniversary are of the opinion that nothing had really changed as the injustice that was the main reason for the protest still exists in society.

In Kwara state, the Police discouraged any proposed rally in commemoration of the EndSARS protest anniversary, scheduled to hold around the Challenge/Post office area of Ilorin, the Kwara state capital,

The presence of security personnel, mainly soldiers and Policemen were heavy around the Post office and the Challenge areas, the proposed venues for the rally.

Speaking with newsmen on the development, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Kwara State Command, Ajayi Okasanmi, said the presence of security personnel, especially at the Post office, Challenge area and other places within the metropolis was in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to ensure public peace and safety of law-abiding citizens.

In the Federal Capital Territory, demonstrations began in front of the Ministry of Justice building in Maitama, Abuja.

Protesters, mostly clad in black, gathered in front of the building on Wednesday with banners and posters.

A large presence of security personnel were seen at the location regulating traffic.

In the meantime, some armed policemen have dispersed #Ensars protesters around Oke Fia, Osogbo, Osun State.

The protesters, who took off at about 12 pm at Ita Olokan Area, went through Station Road before heading to Freedom Park, Osogbo, singing to demand the end to police brutality and ask for good governance.
