Director-General, National Blood Service Commission, Dr Omale Joseph, says the commission is working to ensure Nigeria has a minimum of one million pints of safe blood in storage.
Dr Joseph who said this while briefing newsmen at the National Assembly on an Act that establishes the commission, said the blood would be stored in the 6 geopolitical zones to ensure availability around the country.
The DG appealed to Nigerians to imbibe the culture of blood donation, saying apart from saving lives, people who donate blood are healthier than those who do not.
Sponsor of the bill establishing the commission and member from Kaduna State in the House of Representatives, Alhaji Tajuddeen Abbas said the commission would regulate and ensure the provision of quality blood and blood products.
