The Presidential Committee on Correctional Reform and Decongestion has released five inmates and recommended three inmates for bail from the Nigerian Maximum Security Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The Chairman of the Presidential Committee and former Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, retired Justice Ishaq Bello ordered the release of the inmates when he visited the centre.
Fines were paid for two of the inmates, while transportation fare was given to others by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami.
The Committee Chairman presented inspirational and motivational books to the Correctional Centre to encourage reading.
Justice Ishaq said that the Committee was mandated to visit Correctional Centres to assess the condition and environment of the inmates, as well as to ensure skill acquisition facilities in the centres.
