Hoodlums burn down police station in Imo

Hoodlums have attacked and razed down a divisional police station at Umuelemai in Isiala Mbano local government area of Imo state.

The arsonists were said to have arrived at the station on Thursday evening and opened fire immediately thereby causing everybody within the area to scamper for safety.

A resident of the community who spoke on condition of anonymity told Radio Nigeria that the hoodlums also freed suspects held at the station during the attack.

The Police Public relations Officer Imo State Command Mr. Micheal Abattam who confirmed the attack however stated that the Police repelled the gunmen after exchange of fire.

He said one police officer attached to the division sustained gunshot injuries during the attack noting that the victim was currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

Mr. Abattam explained that the hoodlums arrived in five vehicles and three motorcycles and threw a petrol bomb on the roof of the building which had suffered similar fate in March this year.

He noted that the Command had commenced investigation into the incident with a view to arresting the suspects.
