Curriculum to meet educational needs of persons with disabilities developed

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities in collaboration with stakeholders in the education sector has produced a curriculum to meet tertiary educational needs of persons with disabilities.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Mr James Lalu made this known in Abuja at the end of a 5 Day Workshop on Curriculum Development on Disabilities inclusive Development.

Mr Lalu who expressed delight over the actualization of the project, explained that the curriculum would address the challenges encountered by persons with disabilities especially in acquiring tertiary education.

The Executive Secretary promised to secure approval from the ministry of education and various tertiary institutions for implementation.

The Facilitator General of the curriculum Committee, former Dean Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan Professor Julius Ademokoya maintained that the curriculum has detailed fundamentals for inclusive education and development.

He stated that the curriculum would create a better understanding and bridge the gap between students with and those without disabilities.

Participants were drawn from universities, Colleges of education, Polytechnics, National Universities Commission and members of the disability community.
