The new logo of the Federal Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation
The Federal Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation has unveiled its new Logo after the change of name of the ministry.
At unveiling of the logo and news briefing in Abuja , the Minister Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu said the change of name, logo ,vision and mission was to meet up with global contemporary and future technological demands.
Dr Onu explained that the inclusion of Technology would positively impact all sectors of national life such as education, agriculture, infrastructure development and the fight against corruption and security.
The Minister noted that the country must plan to have a diversified, knowledged-based and sustainable economy, to enable it maintain regional, continental and global influence.
According to the Minister, the Ministry has been leading the way in ensuring that the economy no longer depends on commodities but rather knowledge and innovation.
Dr Onu said the Logo considered the FMSTI’s desire for Nigeria to move away from relying entirely on a resource-based economy but to work hard to catch up with the most developed Science, Technology and Innovation nations.
”Our actions, plans, programmes, policies and Initiatives will be revolutionary in nature. This explains the choice of a red background as the preferred colour. The Hand Tools represent Technology, while the Atom represents Science. Also, the human brain represents Innovation as well as a Knowledge Economy. The Circular Wheel stands for Industrialization especially manufacturing. The black colour of FMSTI depicts our origin as Black Africans. The Coat of Arms signifies the authority of the Federal Republic of Nigeria being the needed impetus to drive us through the STI revolution”.
Earlier, the Minister of state for Science, Technology and Innovation, Mr. Mohammed Abdullahi affirmed that the rebranding of the Ministry will enable it focus more on current technological trends such as Nano-technology, Smart space technology, Bio-tech and diverse new technological to fast track the developmental agenda of the Buhari led administration.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Edet Sunday Akpan said the repositioning and rebranding of the Ministry will bring to fore the ingenuity of Nigerian professionals, scientists and innovators to solve contemporary global issues such as Covid-19 pandemic and security issues currently bedevilling the country.
