Customs officer killed in Ogun

Suspected smugglers in Iya sango village, in Idogo area of Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State have reportedly killed an officer of the Nigeria Customs Service.

The Public Relations Officer of the Federal Operating Unit in Zone A, Mr. Theophilus Duniya, who confirmed the incident explained that some suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing.

Mr. Duniya hinted that the attacked officers are from the unit while another officer was still missing.

He appealed to Nigerians to desist from attacking customs officers whom he said were carrying out lawful duty assigned by the law.

The incident according to sources occurred when the officers from the Federal Operating Unit arrived the village for an operation.

The smugglers according to sources on sighting the patrol team reportedly fled. The two officers looking after the contraband were however attacked while other members of the team went for reinforcement.

The lifeless body of one of the missing officers was reportedly found in a river near Ajegun Iyaloosa village without his rifle, while the search party has been constituted for the second officer.
