Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa were among stakeholders who addressed the gathering.

Over 3,600 delegates from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory were estimated to be at the convention.

There is a heavy security presence at the Eagles Square, venue of the convention.

Link roads were also blocked resulting in gridlock.

A court had struck out a suit filed by the immediate past chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, seeking to stop the convention from taking place.
