Aisha Buhari tasks women on nation building

Some of the award recipients at the event to celebrate women organised by Women of Worth in Abuja.

The Wife of the President Dr Aisha Buhari has called on women across the country to strive to be the best they can to effectively contribute their quota to national development.

Dr Aisha Buhari made the call while receiving an award from the Women of Worth, a Non Governmental Organisation in Abuja.

Dr Aisha Buhari stressed the need to educate the girl-child, noting that an educated girl has the capacity to impact not just her community positively, but the country at large.

The Wife of the President represented by Dr Mairo Tanko Almakura, said her foundation, ‘’Future Assured’’, among others, caters for the less privileged in the society.

Wife of the Bauchi State Governor, Aisha Bala, who was one of the recipients urged women to shun any form of competition among themselves in order to work together to achieve common goals.

“The rural women are waiting for us to use our wealth of experience to better their lot and the best way to achieve result is by working together.”

The President, Women of Worth, Mrs Comfort Adesoye, noted that the award marked the beginning of women celebrating women in the country.

She said “We were only able to award a few women today but there are lots of silent people who have been outstanding in their various endeavours whom we appreciate for contribution to society.”

The Director Programmes and International Relations of Women of Worth, Mrs Betty Oluntunde explained that the event was organsied to celebrate women who have made a difference in the society and to spur them to do more.

Some of the awardees are the Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, Wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Mrs Foluke Adeboye and a former Broadcaster, Moji Makanjuola among others.

The women of worth is a coalition of NGOs focused on women’s development.
