The Ministry of Power says it is working assiduously to ensure the completion of the Zungeru Hydropower project in Niger State by December this year.
The Minister of Power Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, stated this while defending the ministry’s 2022 budget in the house of Representatives Abuja.
Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, said the project when completed will add seven hundred megawatts to the national Grid to increase access to power in line with the Sustainable Development Goals policy.
The Minister also confirmed that the ministry has initiated a National Programme to provide alternative power supply to strategic Government’s formations for security and sustainable power supply.
Responding to lawmakers question on the eleven month Power outage in Borno State, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, explained that the ministry is collaborating with the State Government to restore power in the State.
While stressing the need for adequate funding to the sector, the minister said the ministry is undergoing reforms that would improve power delivery in the country.
In a remark, the Chairman House Committee on Power Alhaji Magaji Da’u Aliyu, reiterated the House commitment to support the power sector reform in line with the ninth Assembly legislative agenda.
