Explosion at a market in Kubwa village, a suburb of the FCT, killed five and injured dozens, on Friday evening.
The explosion was blamed on tainted kerosene.
The fire had been put out by firefighters.
Officials from the Federal Road Safety Commission at the scene told The Punch that 5 died and many were injured, with victims being taken to the Kubwa General Hospital.
In addition to blocking access to the explosion site, police officers prohibited people from gathering there.
Acting Director of FCT Emergency Management Agency, Florence Wenegieme, said hoodlums hampered the firefighters’ operations.
“The incident happened not long. 3 people died, but we have yet to remove their bodies since hoodlums have taken control and prevented our men from doing their tasks, she told the press..
