Japan’s Kishida to appoint new foreign minister

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will appoint former Education Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi as new foreign minister,. Reports have said.

The appointment, which is expected to happen later on Saturday, will be part of a new cabinet Mr Kishida has pledged to put together on Wednesday.

The prime minister’s move comes after his ruling Liberal Party won an election in the lower house of parliament on October 31.

Japan’s ruling party recently chose Mr Kishida as leader following the decision of former PM Yoshihide Suga to resign after just one year in office.
