The Legislative Arm of Bida Local Government in Niger state has announced the suspension of the Council Chairman, Alhaji Suleiman Sheshi for six months.
The suspension followed a sitting by twelve Councilors out of the fourteen Wards of the area.
The Bida Local Government Legislative Arm alleged that the Chairman misappropriated funds meant for the council and embarked on projects without the approval of the House.
Reacting to the development, the Chairman, Alhaji Sulemain Sheshi described their action as unconstitutional.
He said under the present state local government law, no provision for the legislative arm to suspend any Council Chairman.
Alhaji Sheshi also explained that there was an existing court injunction directing the lawmakers to maintain the status quo, pending the hearing of the substantive case.
While dismissing the allegations against him, the chairman urged residents to disregard the purported suspension, go about their normal duties and continue to support government policies.
