Imo Assembly Speaker impeached

The Speaker of the Imo state House of Assembly Chief Paul Emeziem has been impeached.

The speaker was removed by 19 out of the 27 lawmakers during an emergency sitting in Owerri.

They purported signed a letter that was read on the floor of the House.

He was accused of gross misconduct, forgery, abuse of office, and high-handedness. 

The member representing Obowo state constituency Mr Kennedy Ibe has been sworn in as the new speaker of the House.

The now impeached speaker had on Tuesday last week announced the removal of his former deputy Mr Amara Iwuanyanwu following a petition by some lawmakers.
