A priest with the Celestial Church of Christ in Lagos, Jacob Farinmade, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on an 8-count charge of rape and abuse of the bodies of his deceased worshippers.
Mr Farinmade was charged on Friday, alongside 2 other clerics, Abraham Olujobi and Olatunde Taiwo, who all entered not guilty pleas to the allegations.
According to the chief state prosecutor, Olusola Soneye, the defendants indecently cut open Deborah Elijah’s body in 2015 in order to separate her from her unborn before burial and buried one Olubunmi Saliu in a shallow grave on the church grounds.
Mr Soneye claimed that Mr Farinmade raped three ladies (names omitted) and wrongfully imprisoned one of the women while he was the reverend in charge of the church.
Mr Farinmade had pleaded not guilty to rape, unlawful imprisonment, and unauthorized burial in a house.
According to the prosecution, 13 witnesses would testify against the clerics in the case.
The clerics were remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre by Justice Abiola Soladoye, who adjourned the case to December 16.
