Governor Aminu Masari presenting the 2022 budget before the State House of Assembly
Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari has presented the 2022 budget estimate of over three hundred and forty billion naira before the State House of Assembly.
The draft budget proposes a capital expenditure of two hundred and thirty-eight billion naira and a recurrent expenditure of sixty-nine billion naira.
The proposed budget, tagged “Budget of Economic Resilience” appropriates twenty-nine billion naira to the education sector.
Thirty billion naira for the health sector, thirty-three billion naira for the environment, and N26b to the Agriculture sector.
Similarly, N27b was appropriated to roads infrastructure while the water resources sector got forty-one billion naira.
While presenting a review of the budget performance for the current fiscal year, Governor Masari Masari says as at thirtieth September this year, 2021 budget has recorded a revenue performance level of twenty-five with a total expenditure of N70.3b out of the two hundred and eighty-six budgeted for the fiscal year.
He explained that the state government has expended N16b on the provision of capital services that include healthcare, education, works and agriculture.
Governor Masari noted that the 2021 budget implementation was largely affected by security challenges across the state, as funds that were meant for the execution of capital projects and programmes were expended on anti-banditry operations.
The 2021 budget proposal has exceeded the twenty twenty-one budget figures by about fifty-four billion naira.
Shortly after receiving the budget proposal, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Tasiu Maigari assured the executive arm that the House will ensure speedy passage of the budget.
