Bandits kill 9 in Sokoto state

The Sokoto Police Command has confirmed a spate of bandit’s attacks on 3 villages in Sabon Birni local government area of the state.

The Command Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Abubakar Sanusi said 9 persons were killed in separate attacks that took place between the 15th-17th of this month.

He said, based on the findings of the police personnel on the ground in the local government, the three attacks resulted in the death of 9 persons contrary to the figures being circulated in social media.

In a related development, the state Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has condoled with the victims of the bandits attack in Illela local government area.

During a visit to the affected community, governor Tambuwal said, on behalf of the government and people of Sokoto state, he was extending his “heartfelt condolences” on what he described as an “unfortunate incident”.

He commended the local government authorities, monarchs and community leaders for their lawful volunteering assistance and working with security operatives in the area, in an effort to bring the situation under control.

According to the Governor, his administration will continue to assist victims of insurgency attacks in the state.
