Nasarawa adopts stringent measures to end open defecation

Alhaji Aliyu Agwai addressing newsmen after monitoring sanitation in the state

Nasarawa State Government says it has adopted stringent measures to end open defecation as part of steps towards checking outbreak of diseases in the state.

Permanent Secretary of State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Alhaji Aliyu Agwai stated this during a news briefing after monitoring the state monthly environmental sanitation in Lafia.

Alhaji Aliyu Agwai said open defecation was one of the major causes of epidemics in the state especially cholera.

Permanent Secretary said that the state government had strengthened all relevant agencies to enforce the laws aimed at ending the practice.

He called on residents of Lafia metropolis and rural communities to desist from open defecation or face the full weight of the law.

Alhaji Agwai maintained that over 40 persons were arrested for allegedly violating the environmental sanitation law for the month of November 2021.
