President Buhari urges army to improve on intelligence gathering

President Muhammad Buhari has urged the Nigerian Army to enhance its Intelligence gathering and improve its synergy with other security agencies to effectively bring an end to insurgence and other crimes soonest.

He gave the directive in Abuja in a message to the opening of this year’s Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference.

The Chief of Army Staff annual conference is an avenue where the Service appraises their performance during the year and review strategies for better performance for the following year.

President Muhammadu Buhari represented by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor emphasized that intelligence gathering was critical to the successful end of insecurity in the society hence the need for the Army to maintain its tempo to reed the nation of insurgence.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya while reeling out some successes achieved in curbing insecurity said there are more rooms for improvement as the conference would address the shortcomings of the service.

The Minister of Defence retired Major General, Bashiru Magashi represented by the Director Army in the Ministry, Mr Sunday Attah said the military was the unifying institution in the country hence the need to remain apolitical and work towards winning the war against Insurgency.

The conference also witness the exhibition of made in Nigeria military equipment that is been used in the theatre of operations including the Armour vehicle nicknamed after General Ezugo.
