Protests as truck kill students in Lagos

A truck collision on Ogunnusi road in Lagos on Tuesday has claimed the lives an unspecified number of schoolchildren.

According to reports, some of the victims were students of Babs Fafunwa Millennium Senior Secondary School.

State Police Public Relations Officer Adekunle Ajisebutu stated that the driver fled but was later captured.

An angry mob converged on the police station and engaged officers in a fight over the police unwillingness to release the driver to them, resulting in property damage, an eyewitness told TheCableNG.

Rapid Response Squad were dispatched and the demonstrators were quickly dispersed.

The Lagos Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has, in a statement said 14 people were injured in the event.

“An articulated truck was said to have lost control at Grammar School Bus stop on Ogunnusi road, Lagos today Tuesday 7th December 2021 which caused the death of an unverified number of students and leaving many injured,” the statement reads.

Security personnel remain in the area, attempting to preserve order.
