Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has requested additional security personnel to ensure a peaceful Christmas.
After meeting with President Buhari in Abuja, the Governor told State House correspondents that he wants to ensure the safety of indigenes returning home for the holiday.
He said the need for extra security was spurred by the atrocities committed by yet-to-be-arrested inmates who escaped from the Owerri Correctional Facility.
He voiced alarm that just 700 of the 1836 convicts who escaped have returned voluntarily or been re-arrested, stressing that the number of those on the run, committing horrible crimes, was overwhelming and might signal disaster if nothing was done.
President Buhari, he said, understood the significance of Christmas and addressed the issues raised satisfactorily.
The President, he added, approved the release of cash he requested to address insecurity in the state.
