The Nigeria Coalition on Youth, Peace and Security has launched an action plan to enable the youths of the country to have better lives devoid of violence.
The Deputy Director of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution and co-Chair of the Coalition, Mr Andrew Nkemneme stated this during the 6th Anniversary celebration of the adoption of the United Nations Security Council Resolution, UNSR 2250, on Youth, Peace and Security in Abuja.
Mr Nkemneme said the body put in place three steering committees to expand the scope and to ensure that the youths were thoroughly sensitised to key into the action plan for the growth, development and security of the nation.
The Executive Director, Centre for Sustainable Development and Education in Africa, Mr Theophilus Ekpon said Nigeria was the only country in Africa to launch the action plan of youth, peace and security with 6 pilot states to ensure its full implementation across the country.
The United Nations Security Council had on December 2015, unanimously passed a Resolution on Youth Peace and Security after over 10,000 young people called for it in the Amman Youth Declaration.
