President Muhammadu Buhari has urged law enforcement agencies to do a thorough investigation and bring to justice those behind the killing of the Katsina State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr Rabe Nasir.
Describing his murder as a heinous and condemnable act, President Buhari said there should not be a place for such violence in the country.
The President said he was deeply anguished by the cruel killing of Dr Rabe Nasir, who had served his community, state and the nation with utmost diligence.
A statement by the Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, says the President’s thoughts are with the deceased bereaved family.
The Katsina State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr Rabe Nasir was killed by unknown assailants at his residence in Fatima Shema Quarters in Katsina metropolis.
According to the state commissioner of police, Sunusi Buba, the commissioner was killed on Wednesday night but the crime was not detected until Thursday afternoon.
He said the deceased’s body has been evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina, as investigations have commenced in earnest to unravel the circumstances behind the assassination.
The Police Commissioner explained that so far one person has been arrested in connection with the murder, as police detectives have swung into action.
Aged 61, Dr Rabe Nasir was until his death the Katsina State Commissioner for Science and Technology.
He had also served as the Member Representing Mani/Bindawa at the federal House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011.
Dr Nasir had also served with the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
