The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has called on the new Speaker of the Nigerian Youth Parliament to be upright in discharging her duties.
Mr Gbajabiamila made the call in Abuja while congratulating Azeezat Yishawu on her emergence as the Speaker of the Nigerian Youth Parliament.
Mr Gbajabiyamila expressed hope in Dr Yishawu’s ability to handle such an important national office.
Dr Yishawu emerged as the speaker of the fifth Nigerian Youth Parliament at an election held at the Senate wing of the National Assembly in Abuja on Wednesday.
She is the first female to be elected Speaker of the country’s Youth Parliament.
The Nigerian Youth Parliament was formally inaugurated in 2008 in line with the United Nations call on member-states to establish a platform through which Young people can adequately contribute to decision making processes on issues that concern them.
The UN also wanted youths around the world to have inculcated in them democratic principles and leadership qualities.
