Nasarawa State Government has flagged off sensitization campaigns to check the spread of Lassa fever.
Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Health Dr. Janet Angbazo stated this during a news briefing in Lafia the Nasarawa State capital.
Dr. Janet Angbazo said the measure became imperative to enlighten residents of the state on the need to desist from lifestyles that would enhance the spread of the disease.
She explained that the sensitization campaigns would focus more on communities that are prone to outbreaks of Lassa fever especially Lafia, Obi, Karu, Awe, Doma local government areas of the state.
Dr. Janet Angbazo however, pointed out that since the beginning of the dry season this year, two cases of Lassa had been confirmed with three suspected cases of the disease in the state.
While calling on residents to abstain from rat contaminated food and other utensils and embrace hygiene, Dr. Janet Angbazo noted that the state government was not leaving anything to chance to ensure that the disease was not spread to other parts of the state.
