Kwara gov’t sets to commence school feeding programme

Ahead of the kick-off of the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme in Kwara State by January 2022, the Kwara State government has received feeding utensils from the federal government.

Handing over the utensils, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Umar-Farouq, said the programme was part of an initiative of the federal government to reduce poverty and boost school enrollment in communities across the country.

Hajia Farouq, represented by Director Primary Research Services in the ministry, Hajia Safiya Sani, said the programme is funded by the federal government in collaboration with the state governments was also designed to boost the local economy and facilitate job creation while also boosting the nutritional status of benefitting students.

She assured that the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development would continue to improve quality service delivery on all its social interventions and leadership role on the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme.

Receiving the utensils on behalf of the Kwara State Government, Secretary to the State Government, Prof Mamman Saba Jubril said, while the Federal Government feed pupils from Primary 1 to 3, the state government has resolved to also feed pupils from primary 4 to 6.

Kwara State Focal Person for the programme, Hajia Bashirah AbdulRazaq gave assurance that the state government through her office will ensure that food to be served to the pupils were prepared under very hygienic conditions.
