The Independent Investigative Panel on Human Rights Violations and alleged Extra-judicial killings by the Defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) has awarded compensation to some victims of rights abuses.
The panel, sitting in Abuja, awarded compensation to the tune of N146million.
At the Presentation of Cheques to some of the victims and their relatives , the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Tony Ojukwu, reassured Nigerians that the Commission was committed to the protection of Human Rights in the country.
The Chairman of the Panel, Justice Suleiman Galadima, said the panel was yet to compile the comprehensive report as compensation was meant to cushion some challenges faced by the victims of rights violations.
The Secretary of the Panel, Hillary Ogbonna, said the reports are in phases, including Institutional Phase, Prosecutorial phase and Compensation phase.
