FG pledges support in resuscitation of Next Supermarket

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq has assured of government support in resuscitating the Next Cash and Carry Super Market Abuja gutted by fire recently.

The Minister who stated this while undertaking an on-the-spot assessment of the shopping mall described the incident as unfortunate and a huge loss to the government and people.

Hajiya Sadiya sympathised with the management and advised Nigerians to ensure their buildings are properly equipped with fire equipment in case of emergency.

“This is a very unfortunate incident. It is catastrophic and a loss not just to the management of this company but to the government and the country at large. Immediately after the fire started, we deployed the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA together with other sister agencies to come and assist in rescue operations.

The extent of the damage cannot be quantified, as a government we offer our deepest sympathy and will come in to see how we can support them and appeal to well-meaning Nigerians to support the revival of the store, she added.

The General Manager Next Cash and Carry Super Market, Mr. Neil Pape said an investigation is on to unravel the cause of the inferno and would be communicated in due course.

“As soon as we have the total amount lost and we get the records of all the stock in our business, we will give you feedback in a press release. This is devastating because it happened on Sunday. We have had all manner of high-profile persons coming in to assist and see what happened. We will need the support of the government as we streamline plans to open a new store”.
