Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has launched the emblem and appeal fund ahead of this year’s commemoration of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day on the 15th of this month.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, donated fifty million naira to the state chapter of the Nigerian Legion during the launch of the Remembrance Day emblem and appeal fund at Lagos House, Ikeja.
He expressed his administration’s commitment to empower widows of the fallen heroes.
The Governor directed the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, WAPA, to work with the office of the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Legion to identify those who could be empowered and supported within the first quarter of this year.
The Commandant of the Lagos State chapter of the Nigerian Legion, retired Colonel Fola Akande commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his welfare package and concern for retired officers, describing him as “a worthy Patriot of the Nigerian Legion.”
Colonel Akande appealed to the Government and people of Lagos State to continue to support and identify with widows, children and families of the fallen heroes by donating generously, buying and wearing the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration emblem.
