Ortom approves ₦60m for security personnel who died on duty

Governor Samuel Ortom has approved N60m as compensation to families of security personnel who lost their lives between 2017 to date while serving in the state.

He made this known at an Interdenominational Church Service to mark this year’s Armed forces Remembrance Day held at Redeemed Christian Church of God, Gboko Road, Makurdi.

Governor Ortom stated that although the sacrifices of the fallen heroes could not be quantified in monetary terms, the gesture was the government’s little way of expressing appreciation for their efforts.

He explained that without the efforts of security personnel, some of whom have lost their lives, Benue State would have long been overrun by bandits and herdsmen militia.

Governor Ortom appealed to the people of the state to sustain prayers for the armed forces to surmount security challenges confronting the state and Nigeria at large.

Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Benue State Chapter, Rev Akpen Leva expressed appreciation to the armed forces for their efforts to protect the people and assured that CAN would continue to pray for them.

Pastor Folasayo Aderemi led the congregration in intercessory prayers for President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Samuel Ortom and other political leaders as well.
