FG commences constructions of power substations in Benue

The Federal Ministry of Power has commenced construction of one thirty-two and one thirty-three KV transmission substations in four locations in Benue State.

Minister of Power, Engineer Abubakar Aliyu who made this known when he paid Governor Samuel Ortom a courtesy call said the substations are located in Ugba, Buruku, Zaki Biam and Anyiim.

Engineer Aliyu stated that the projects which have reached forty percent would be completed in about six months and all of them linked with thirty-three KV double circuit lines.

He noted that the Yandev transmission substation constructed about forty years ago which had become weak has been upgraded and linked with the three thirty KV line from the Kashimbilla power station.

The Minister of Power said the heavy investment of the Federal Government in the power sector has started yielding results, stressing that five thousand megawatts of electricity can now be transmitted without experiencing system collapse.

In his remarks, Governor Samuel Ortom acknowledged the improvement in the power sector since President Muhammadu Buhari came to power but appealed that more efforts should be made so that Nigeria can be at par with countries like South Africa.

Governor Ortom who stated that constant supply of electricity across the country could solve the economic and security challenges suggested that it would not be out place for the Federal Government to on agreement take money from the federation account for the sector.

Correspondent Terna Injua reports that the Minister of Power was accompanied by that of state, Mr. Goddy Jedi-Agba, Acting Director General Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN and other top officials.#
