The house of Representatives has Urged the Federal Government to name the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Oyo State after the former governor of the state, late Dr Adebayo Alao-Akala.
This was sequel to a motion by the chairman house committee on information National Orientation ethics and values, Mr Olusegun Odebunmi at plenary.
Mr Odebunmi, stated that the former governor served his country in the Nigerian Police in various capacities before venturing into politics in 1999 when he contested and won the chairmanship seat of the Ogbomoso North Local Government, before he became Deputy Governor and executive Governor of Oyo State in 2003 and 2007 respectively.
The lawmaker, added that the former governor also served the State and contributed immensely towards the growth, development, peace and sustainability of the state and Nigeria by extension while in office as deputy governor and as the executive governor of Oyo state.
According to Odebunmi, Akala’s death is a national loss, irreplaceable and deserves a National recognition for his relentless and selfless service to the Country.
Adopting the motion, the house resolved to send a delegation to commiserate with his family.
It also observed a minute silence in his honour.
