UN lauds IDPs integration process in Borno

The United Nations says the approach by the Borno State Government to ensure the safe return of Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs to their ancestral homes is highly effective.

United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Emergency Relief Coordinator Mr. Martin Grifftihs stated this in Abuja when he led a delegation to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq.

The UN Envoy who told the Minister that he had visited Borno to assess the Humanitarian situation reiterated United Nations committed towards helping Nigerian Government return persons of concern to their homes in dignity and respect.

“I am convinced that the approach that we saw both in the field and the meeting with the Governor to get into that point to return people to their home and stability is effective to me, a responsive one and which we are part “

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq said government remains committed towards addressing their plights.

“The problem is very enormous. Every year I see this as I go to the field it’s disheartening. We hope this insecurity ends so that everyone can be return to their homes and normal lives in safety and dignity’ she said’

The Minster added that the government is supporting them with skills and durable solutions even in camps to be self reliant.
