Senior police Officers advised to adhere strictly to law

Senior Police Officers have been warned not to use their positions to oppress junior colleagues or the public whom they are meant to serve and protect.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 13 , Umar Muri gave the charge while decorating some newly promoted Police officers under the Zone at the headquarters in Ukpo, Anambra state.

The event which had the commissioners of Police in Anambra state and his Enugu counterpart in attendance, also had family and friends of the newly-promoted officers on ground to congratulate them .

The AIG, who commended the Inspector-General of Police for his efforts targeted at repositioning and rebuilding the image of the police force, said the zonal command would stop at nothing in its efforts to protect lives and property in the two states.

Mr Muri called on them to always discharge their duties in line with the relevant laws and regulations guiding the operations of the police.

“You are senior police officers , Your juniors are expected to copy from you. So, there is a need for you to always be very clean, either in uniform or off uniform. You have to respect yourselves so that your subordinates can respect you,” he said.

The AIG zone 13, who Harped on the need for Supervision of officers and men, also enjoined the senior officers to always assist the state commissioners of police in their commands, as it would help them upgrade security in the area.

Radio Nigeria Correspondent reports that among the police officers decorated were the Chief Security Officer, Enugu state Government House, DCP Fidelis Ogarabe, and the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 13, SP Nkeiruka Nwode.
