Convicted skit maker, De General, arrested for drug trafficking has been set free.
National Drug Law Enforcement Agency operatives raided the Lagos home of the skit-maker, on January 12, where they said cannabis, tramadol (225mg), and drug-related paraphernalia were seized.
He and cinematographer Caleb William were arraigned in court together on Monday after De General, born Joshua Sunday, admitted ownership of the drugs, the NDLEA said.
The agency slammed a 3-count charge of trafficking tramadol and cannabis against the two, to which they pleaded guilty during the trial.
The judge, Daniel Osiagor, after listening to submissions of lawyers, ruled that the defendants should be convicted rather than sentenced because the volume of substance was minimal.
Afterwards, he told them to “go and sin no more.”
De General thanked everyone who stood, in a video posted to his Instagram account on Tuesday night.
“I only traffic laughter and comedy,” he said, urging the public to disregard the claim that he is a drug trafficker.
“I just want to want to debunk the news circulating about the De General being a drug trafficker. I’m not a drug trafficker! If I was a drug trafficker, do you think they’ll allow me go like that? I only traffic laughter and comedy.
“So let’s get our facts right. De General is not a drug trafficker, and I love you all. I don miss to dey do skits. E kon be like say nah one year.”
