Security agencies in the country have been advised to cooperate with one another in promoting peace and security for all Nigerians.
Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, gave the charge while receiving the management of the National Defence College, Abuja, in his office.
While appreciating the role of the Nigerian Armed Forces in promoting peace in the country, Ogbeni Aregbesola stressed the need for all security agencies to see themselves as one and avoid inter-agency rivalry.
The Minister promised to be available as a resource person for the college anytime he is invited.
In a statement by his Media Adviser, Sola Fasure, he urged the College to include senior officers from the Federal Fire Service in its training programme as the nation braces up for huge wildfires due to the effect of climate change.
He also called for intensive training and capacity-building for officers to help them acquire the wherewithal to physically fight wildfires, as well as acquire the managerial know-how on resource management and effective collaboration with other security agencies.
Speaking earlier, the Commandant, National Defence College, Rear Admiral Murtala Bashir, said the courtesy visit was necessitated by the need to collaborate with the Ministry of Interior, especially because it supervises key Paramilitary Agencies in Nigeria.
According to him, the aim of the College is to prepare senior officers for operational and strategic leadership in the various agencies of government.
Admiral Bashir said three officers selected from the Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigerian Immigration Service and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, out of the over 200 participants selected from 16 countries, are participating in Course 30.
In his address of welcome, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Shuaibu Belgore intimated the delegation of the ministry’s cooperation in achieving its aims and objectives.
Others at the event included senior military officers, directors in the Ministry of Interior and representatives of the paramilitary agencies in the ministry.
