Mr Yussuf Kelani, Executive Director of Earth Advocacy and Empowerment Foundation, has raised concern over the growing threats posed by climate change in Nigeria, warning of dire implications if nothing is done to halt the trend.
Mr Kelani made the remarks during the foundation’s eleventh environment symposium, which was held in collaboration with the Nigerian national youth council in Abuja.
The environmentalist stressed the importance of knowledge sharing and youth empowerment in light of the current harsh weather change and its expected impact on agriculture and other industries.
Miss Oluwakemi Areola, Special Assistant to the Minister of Youths and Sports Development, informed the gathering in a statement that the ministry had devised a program to educate young people about the importance of taking responsibility for their actions, particularly in light of climate change.
The National Youth Council of Nigeria’s Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo stated that the council has finished arrangements to begin tree planting in all local governments across the country.
