Group canvasses for a northwest development commission

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has campaigned for the establishment of a Northwest Development Commission, citing the region’s high level of banditry and other forms of criminality.

Alhaji Ibrahim Tudu, chairman of the Zamfata State Coalition of NGOs, who presided over the Maitama Sule Leadership lecture held by the CNG in Gusau, on Wednesday, said the Northwest deserved a Commission to help resuscitate deteriorating infrastructure caused by insecurity.

During the lecture on ‘Security; Interrogating the Effect of Banditry on Education and Development in Northern Nigeria’, guest speaker Abdulrahman Adamu, Chairman Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Federal University Gusau, blamed the country’s lingering insecurity on poor leadership and an inability to manage the country’s resources.

He stated that much work has to be done to free the state from the bandits who operate on a daily basis and have traumatized the majority of people in Zamfara and other states in the region.
