NDLEA stops circulation of counterfeit $4.7m

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has stopped an attempt by a network to circulate counterfeit $4.7 million currency.

The about N2.7 billion was intercepted in a cargo carried from Lagos to Abaji area council in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, “a controlled delivery of the parcelled counterfeit $4,760,000 led to the arrest of a major suspect, 42-year-old Abdulmumini Maikasuwa.”

Babafemi said the seizure was the result of intelligence acquired by NDLEA FCT Command, outlining the movement of the cash and the vehicle in which it was being transported.

He said that NDLEA Chairman, Buba Marwa, has directed that both the cash and the suspect in custody be turned over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
