Gunmen attack Maburya community in Niger state

Gunmen have attacked the Maburya community in the Mariga Local Government Area of Niger state.

During the attack, which occurred on Tuesday, several houses were burnt and scores of deaths were recorded.

According to the chairman of Mariga Local Government, Alhaji Abbas Adamu, this is about the 6th time armed men are attacking the community.

Alhaji Adamu recounted that about 2 weeks ago, some villages including Kakihum, Gulbin Boka, Ragada and Kumbashi were all attacked by “these same gunmen”.

He blamed the lack of network services and good road network for being among the contributing factors behind the continued attacks on the communities.

“Even the contract for the rehabilitation of Kontagora to Bangi, the council Headquarters, which was awarded by the federal government about 3 years ago, the work is yet to commence,” he complained.

The council chairman appealed to the federal government to facilitate the commencement of work on the road and assist displaced persons living in the IDPs camp with relief materials.
