Benue Queens began their quest of gaining promotion back to the nation’s top-tier Handball League by comfortably defeating Abia Valiants on Day 2 of the Division One Handball League, holding in Benin City, Edo State.
The two former Premier League teams clashed in the very first match of the women’s Competition, and Benue Queens led by Captain of the nation’s Senior Women tram, Dorothy Nyagh easily defeated Abia Valiants 36-23.
The other matches in the category saw Sokoto Rima, with an impressive Rehima Bello in their ranks, thrashing Police Machine 29-16 victory while Joy Okolo helped Delta Force to emphatically defeat Suleja Shooters 34-17.
In the Men’s Category, Correction Boys continued in their winning run with a closely fought 23-20 defeating of Borno Spiders.
Zakari Bala made the difference for the Correction Boys; while Uyigue Enomwen was the star man as Edo Dynamos needed to dig deep to edge Kwara United 22-21.
Olaiya Ibukun was also pivotal for Owena Kings as they defeated Benue Buffaloes 23-19; while Nura Kolo impressive haul of 10 goals, helped Suleja Shooters to a 29-23 victory over Mindscope Academy.
