Commuters stranded as Niger residents protest invasion by bandits

Report just reaching us says Commuters are stranded in Kutigi Lavun Local Government area of Niger state following a barricade of the major federal road by residents.

The residents are protesting the invasion of their communities by Bandits.

Bandits have recently been terrorizing villages in Lavun including whisking away a bride on Friday while the wedding was ongoing.

in the meantime, 8 bandits have been neutralised in a gun battle with the combined security agencies in the state.

State Commissioner of Local Government Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal Security Mr Emmanuel Umar stated this while addressing Newsmen in Minna at the end of an emergency meeting headed by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello.

Mr Emmanuel Umar explained that security agencies have rounded up the terrorists who invaded several communities in Bida Emirate while others according to him are holed up on the flanks of river Kaduna.

He however assured Nigetlites that the bandits that are currently rounded up in those areas would soon be nuetralised.

According to him Niger state govẹrnment is deploying both kinetic and non-kinetic approach in tackling insecurity in parts of the state.

Mr Umar also said the emergency meeting is to review Niger state govẹrnment security strategies as well as to work in synergy with the public and security agencies to tackle such challenges.

On IDPs he said some Internally Displaced Persons in Kontagora have started returning home while more from other parts of the state will follow suit.
