Three hoodlums have met their waterloo in Onitsha, after allegedly robbing a female victim of her belongings along Owerri Road, Anambra State.
The hoodlums were given a hot chase and three of them got beaten to death by an angry mob who eventually set them ablaze.
Confirming the incident in a Press Release, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga said Police operatives recovered a tricycle, handbag and a smartphone that was allegedly disposed from the female victim by the hoodlums operating along Owerri Road, Romchi transport park, Onitsha.
It notes that upon police arrival, the mob had set 3 out of the 4 hoodlums ablaze while the fourth person narrowly escaped.
Meanwhile, police operatives are already on ground and efforts are being made to bring normalcy to the area and possibly apprehend the fleeing gang member.
The release says that the Commissioner of Police, Echeng Echeng who frowned at jungle justice however thanked the members of the public for assisting the police in apprehending suspected criminals but urged them to always exercise restraint by not taking the laws into their hands.
CP Echeng advised that apprehended criminals be taken to the nearest police stations which would afford the police the opportunity to conduct appropriate investigation into the nefarious activities of the suspects, and bring them to justice in accordance with extant laws.
